Subject: Trailhead Roof Top Tent Ladder Rivets

Part Number: TS-RTT-TRAILHEAD

Tent Received Between: April 24, 2021 and May 10, 2021

Issue

If you received your Tuff Stuff Overland Trailhead Roof Top Tent between April 24, 2021 and May 10, 2021 there may be an issue with the top mounting rivets of your ladder. We have been notified by our factory that some rivets, at the top mounting point of the Trailhead ladder, may need to be replaced. The rivets are one size smaller than we recommend. The results can be a weaker attachment point between the ladder and the ladder swing hardware.

Do not use the Telescoping Ladder until the existing rivets have been replaced with new bolts.

Repair

Because we do not know which ladders have the smaller rivets, we are recommending that all rivets at the ladder mounting points (the image above) be replaced prior to use. We are shipping you a screw and nut assembly that is an easier repair than re-riveting the ladder mounting points. It will also be sturdier than riveting.

New Hardware Assembly Set:

Bolts, 2 Qty

Washers, 4 Qty

Nuts, 2 Qty

Replacement of the existing rivets will be as simple as removing the rivet with a pair of pliers and inserting the replacement bolt and nut. See instructions or video above.

My rivets look fine, can I still use my ladder?

No, do not use your Trailhead ladder until the existing rivets are replaced. If your ladder has incorrect rivets it will fail. You do not want to be in the middle of nowhere when it happens.

Questions

  • My rivets look fine, can I still use my ladder?

No, do not use your Trailhead ladder until the existing rivets are replaced. If your ladder has incorrect rivets it will fail. You do not want to be in the middle of nowhere when it happens.

I don't understand, how did this happen?

At the end of our last factory run of Trailhead tents, the team ran out of the correct rivets and used the next size closest to what is required so that they did not delay the shipment. While the intentions were good we cannot accept an inferior part on any part of our tents. Given the choice between your safety and our sales we choose you.

Why are you sending me a bolt if my ladder has a rivet?

Most people do not have rivet guns available to them and even if they did... most of us can't work them. It's much easier and stronger to replace the rivet with a bolt, washer, and nut.

Why are you having me fix this instead of shipping me a new tent?

First, it's a simple fix and anyone handy enough to buy their own roof top tent and install it can switch out a rivet with a bolt. Second, we simply do not have extra Trailhead's on hand. They are on backorder and we want you out enjoying your summer camping not waiting for another tent to show up.

Why is this the first time I'm hearing about this?

If you do not have a notification in your Junk mail or your Trailhead tent shipped during the time frame other than denoted above, you are not impacted and did not receive a notification.

What if I received my Trailhead tent during a different time frame, do I need to be concerned?

No, we have isolated the issue to one specific run of tents. No other tents have been impacted.
